Hailing from the historic González Byass bodega in Jerez, Spain, Soberano 5 is a \"Solera Reserva\" brandy that serves as a richer, more structured alternative to the standard entry-level Soberano. While many consumers mistake the \"5\" for a standard age statement, it technically refers to the five stages (criaderas) of the traditional solera system the spirit passes through during its maturation. It is distilled from 100% Airén grapes and aged in American oak barrels that were previously used to age Oloroso sherry, giving it a distinctively Spanish \"Sherry Cask\" character.
